Created by Philip Nathan, the coin depicts the heroic figure of Britannia standing by the sea. She is holding a trident (representing naval power), a shield bearing the Union Jack (for protection), and an olive branch (for peace). The obverse side features an effigy of King Charles III, the reigning monarch.
Depending on the date issued, Britannia gold coins made from 2013 onwards contain 24−carat gold (99.99% fine). However, coins minted before 2013 were 22−carat (91.67% fine), but they still contain exactly one troy ounce of gold.
The bigger sizes are usually in cast form and may not be fully sealed, but will still be Brand New and have the serial number on there.
